Four things worth checking in any AI companion app

Once you have used a few of these, the differences that actually matter narrow down fast. These are the questions we would ask:

1. Does her face stay the same?

Ask for three photos in a row. If you get three different women, the app is generating pictures rather than showing you a person, and no amount of good conversation fixes that. Dark Loop locks each companion to a reference identity, so every image is the same face in a new pose, outfit and setting.

2. Does the memory actually persist?

Tell her something specific, leave for two days, come back and see whether it survived. A lot of apps have a rolling context window that quietly drops everything older than the last few messages. 3. Can you talk, or only type?

What Dark Loop is not

It is not a character marketplace with thousands of user-uploaded personas — the cast is curated on purpose. The anime cast is painterly rather than flat cel-shaded, so if you want hard 2D this is not it yet. There is no public gallery, no social feed and no discovery page, which is deliberate but does mean there is nothing to browse socially. And it is invite-only during the preview, so access is not instant: you request it, a person reads the request, and you get an email.
